Researching and reflecting

Nqobani Mlilo research leader

In these unusual times of the 'rona, almost all artists are out of work.

So we at the Swing Circus HQ (my house) have been focussing on research and reflection in these troubling times. George Floyd's horrific death at police hands has sparked a huge upswing in the fight for racial equality.

A number of people from the Bristol Swing Dance scene have volunteered to help us address research of how to best make our "In Colour" show more accessible and more impactful for a wider demographic.

Heading up the research team is the affable and inspiring Nqobani "Bani" Mlilo (pictured).

We are researching the following:

1) Collecting and documenting voices/poems/thoughts and videos predominantly from this year that reflect our current state of racial affairs.

2) Studying the UK ethnic demographics and reports on equality and diversity within the Arts.

3) Developing our educational materials to be presented alongside our shows and workshops.
